Ari Shwayder, Ph.D

Ari Shwayder, PhD

Biography

Ari Shwayder is a faculty member in the Business Economics & Public Policy group at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and a research fellow at the William Davidson Institute (WDI) at the University of Michigan. At Michigan Ross, he is an award-wining teacher of economics courses to MBA and other master’s students on microeconomics, macroeconomics, and anti-trust. At WDI he has worked on a wide-range of projects from improving donor effectiveness in middle-income countries, to analyzing public-sector drug distribution networks in developing countries. He is currently working on projects seeking to improve small- and medium-sized enterprise access to working capital in developing countries. 

Ari previously worked for McKinsey & Company, where he worked on operational and strategic initiatives in financial services industries, public sector, and education. He also worked with the McKinsey Global Institute to analyze the effect of quantitative easing on global industries. He also previously worked in the U.S. Senate as an Economist to the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. He holds an A.B. in Mathematics cum laude from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University.
