As the United Nations Human Rights Council marked a significant milestone with the opening of its 62nd session at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, the year also celebrated the Council’s 20th anniversary. A moment reflecting two decades of advancing and protecting human rights worldwide.
Adding to this landmark occasion, SSBM Geneva proudly celebrates the participation of DBA student Liridona Krasniqi Popovici, who took an active role during the session, demonstrating the impact that academic excellence and civic engagement can achieve on the international stage.
Representing Interfaith International, a non-governmental organization with consultative status at the United Nations, Liridona delivered an oral statement during the enhanced interactive dialogue on the Fact-Finding Mission’s oral update on Sudan. In her address, she highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Tawila, Zamzam Camp, and El Fasher, calling for unhindered humanitarian access and advocating for an inclusive, civilian-led pathway toward sustainable peace.
Her contribution reflected the importance of informed, evidence-based advocacy in addressing some of today’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.
Beyond her formal statement, Liridona also supported Mr. Biro Diawara, diplomat and ECOSOC representative of RADDHO (Rencontre Africaine pour la Défense des Droits de l’Homme), in moderating a side event held alongside the Human Rights Council session. The event brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss key human rights issues and reinforce international cooperation.
For SSBM Geneva, moments like these reflect the institution’s commitment to preparing globally minded leaders ready to contribute meaningfully to international dialogue. Seeing our students engage directly with the United Nations and collaborate with respected civil society organizations demonstrates the practical impact of academic learning beyond the classroom.
As the UN Human Rights Council enters its third decade, SSBM Geneva remains proud to see its students participating in conversations that shape global policy and promote human rights, peace, and international cooperation.
