NEWS > Day 4 of Immersion Week: Insight into Finance, Banking & Strategic Capital Decisions

Day 4 of the SSBM Geneva Immersion Week offered students a valuable deep dive into the world of finance, banking, and strategic decision-making in today’s global economy. Through expert-led sessions and exclusive company visits, participants gained both academic insight and real-world perspectives on the financial sector.

Understanding the Banking Landscape

The day began with Dr. Victor Yerris, who introduced students to the Swiss and international banking landscape. His session explored the evolution of modern banking, the role of Switzerland as a global financial hub, and the challenges and opportunities shaping the industry today.

Building on this foundation, Dr. Yerris then led an engaging session on funding and capital structure. Students examined key financial concepts such as debt versus equity financing, cost of capital, fundraising strategies, and investor expectations. The discussion highlighted how businesses make strategic financing decisions to support growth, innovation, and long-term sustainability.

Exclusive Visit to Gonet Private Bank

In the afternoon, students had the privilege of visiting Gonet Private Bank in Geneva, where they were welcomed by Erik Fruytier, former Chief Investment Officer of the bank. During the visit, the Gonet team shared the bank’s rich history and provided insights into its operations, client acquisition strategies, and commitment to excellence in private banking.

Students also learned about the bank’s investment philosophy, wealth management services, digital assets strategy, and the critical role that trust and reputation play in Swiss banking. The visit offered a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on how a prestigious private bank navigates an increasingly dynamic financial environment.

Visit to the United Nations

To conclude the day, some students joined Dr. Olesya Meskina for a visit to the United Nations in Geneva, adding an international and diplomatic dimension to an already inspiring day.

Day 4 once again demonstrated the unique value of the SSBM Geneva Immersion Week: combining academic learning, executive expertise, and direct access to world-class institutions in the heart of Geneva.
