MIRC, the Multi-disciplinary International Research Center at SSBM Geneva, is designed to foster cutting-edge research across diverse fields, bringing together scholars, professionals and thought leaders from various disciplines. Its mission is to facilitate collaborative research that addresses global challenges, promote innovation and contribute to both academic and practical advancements. By integrating insights from different sectors, MIRC aims to produce impactful studies that influence policy, industry practices, and thought leadership on an international scale, further enhancing SSBM Geneva’s commitment to academic excellence and global engagement.

The MIRC team is composed of a distinguished group of researchers, each of whom has a proven track record of publishing in top-ranked, peer-reviewed journals and presenting at prestigious international conferences. These experts hail from diverse academic disciplines, ranging from business and management to technology, environmental science and social sciences. Their work has been recognized globally for its quality and impact, positioning them as thought leaders in their respective fields. With this strong foundation, the MIRC team is well-equipped to drive forward pioneering research that addresses complex, interdisciplinary challenges facing businesses and society today.
A unique aspect of MIRC is its collaborative research model, which encourages team members to co-author publications and engage in joint research efforts. This approach fosters synergies among researchers, allowing for the integration of multiple perspectives and expertise into each project.
By collaborating across disciplines, MIRC researchers are able to generate deeper insights, enrich the quality of their findings, and produce more innovative solutions to global issues. This collaborative spirit not only strengthens the individual work of MIRC members, but also enhances the collective reputation of the center as a hub for cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research.
This postdoctoral project addresses the issue of the sustainability of family-owned SMEs in Côte d’Ivoire, where nearly 64% of them disappear at the first generational succession. The research focuses on the formalization of family governance as a key explanatory variable for the success of intergenerational transfers. Drawing on an in-depth case study of a successful succession, complemented by contrasting empirical material, the project aims to model a governance protocol that is transferable and capable of institutionalization.
The approach, qualitative and inductive in nature, combines interviews, participant observation, documentary analysis, and co-construction workshops. The theoretical framework brings together models of family governance (Gersick et al., 1997; Carlock & Ward, 2001), OHADA business law, and contributions from the social sciences (Bourdieu, 1986; Mauss, 2007; Héritier, 1996) to capture the complex interaction between formal rules and sociocultural norms.
The expected outcomes include a dissertation, scientific publications, and operational deliverables (a guide, a toolkit, and a training manual) aimed at strengthening the resilience of Côte d’Ivoire’s economic fabric and providing a contextualized theoretical contribution to the study of governance in Africa.
