Students will be able to assess the performance of a company and its associated risks, with the ability to propose necessary restructuring measures to increase company value and reduce operational and financial risks.

Business planning and Budgeting

After this lecture the students will learn to forecast the future Balance sheet, Income Statement and CF statement. Using historical figures the students will predict the future trends of its company in different scenarios. This is important as the necessary steps for students to learn how to value the company in future.

Working Capital Management

After this topic, students will learn how to calculate current assets such as receivables, stocks, and cash, as well as current liabilities such as payables, short-term debts, etc. They will also learn how to determine the net working capital (NWC), cash conversion cycle, and how to finance cash gaps using different instruments. This topic is crucial for students to understand how to maintain a financially stable and liquid company on a short-term basis, and how to use NWC as one of the components of company valuation.

Business Valuation

After this topic, students will learn how to value a company using intrinsic methods such as FCF and dividends, and extrinsic methods such as multiples. They will apply different models in Excel with various assumptions to determine the value of any company in different scenarios (best case, worst case, and central case). By using inputs such as the balance sheet, P&L, DCF, NWC, CAPEX, terminal value, WACC, etc., students will learn how to build financial models in Excel and conduct simulations of a firm’s value, focusing on profitability, liquidity, efficiency, leverage, and more.

M&A

After this topic, students will learn to apply different methods for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) of companies across various industries. They will have the opportunity to analyze successful and less successful M&A transactions worldwide. Students will explore various motivations for M&A, the steps involved in preparing an M&A transaction, due diligence aspects, and other prerequisites for a successful M&A.

Dividend policy

After this topic, students will learn to calculate future dividends using various intrinsic and extrinsic methods. They will examine the differences between active and passive dividend policies, determine the impact of dividends on company value, and interpret the relationship between the level of dividends, company performance, company risks, and shareholder wealth. This topic is important as it represents one of the fundamental methods of company valuation.

Risk Measurement

After this topic, students will learn to determine the risk of any company using indicators such as variance, covariance, and standard deviation. These financial tools will be used to compare the firm with its benchmarks and with different industries in a specific portfolio of securities. Students will also learn how to apply the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) to measure the relationship between risk and return in different companies. The CAPM model is particularly important for determining the return on investment for investors and using it in company valuation as the cost of capital.

Accounting Manipulations

After this topic, students will learn to differentiate between accounting manipulations and creative accounting. They will examine numerous case studies from different industries worldwide where accounting manipulations were used (accounting scandals).
