NEWS > Immersion Week Day 2: Geneva Through Business Strategy and Luxury Watches

The second day of SSBM Geneva Immersion Week offered students an inspiring blend of academic insight, industry exposure, and cultural discovery in the heart of Geneva.

How global economic shifts are reshaping modern business strategy and decision-making

The day began with an engaging session led by Professor Mary Mayendfish Toby, who explored the topic of economic power shifts and business strategy. Students gained valuable perspectives on evolving global dynamics, international markets, and how modern organizations must adapt their strategies in response to geopolitical and economic transformation.

Swiss Luxury Industry in the Digital Age

Later in the day, SSBM had the pleasure of welcoming Maria Bashutkina, MSc, a specialist in digital marketing for the luxury industry, with particular expertise in the watch sector, one of Geneva’s most iconic and influential industries. Her professional experience provided students with a unique look into how luxury brands position themselves in the digital age while preserving heritage, exclusivity, and customer loyalty.

Thanks to her collaboration, students were given the exceptional opportunity to visit the prestigious M.A.D. Gallery Geneva, a globally recognized destination connected to the innovative watchmaker MB&F. During the visit, the gallery owner shared an in-depth presentation on how the business operates, offering insights into the full watch industry ecosystem. From mechanical innovation and production processes to logistics, retail strategy, target clientele, and international market presence.

This firsthand exposure allowed students to better understand the complexity, craftsmanship, and strategic sophistication behind one of Switzerland’s most celebrated industries.

Experiencing Geneva beyond the classroom

To conclude the day, participants enjoyed a guided visit through Geneva’s Old Town, discovering the city’s rich history, cultural heritage, and unique atmosphere. The experience helped students deepen their connection with Geneva while appreciating the local environment that shapes its international reputation.

Day 2 was a remarkable opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world business excellence, reinforcing SSBM Geneva’s commitment to delivering practical, global, and immersive education experiences.
